2022
- Eramet launched feasibility studies for a hydrometallurgical project in Halmahera, called Sonic Bay, in partnership with a European company. After a comprehensive evaluation of the project’s execution strategy, both parties agreed not to pursue the investment further.
- In the same year, Eramet and Tsingshan agreed to prepare Weda Bay Nickel for auditing under the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) standards.
- Eramet established a new office in Jakarta, Indonesia, along with an exploration unit to identify the potential of critical metals essential for the energy transition in Indonesia.
2019
Weda Bay Nickel officially began mining operations and established a plant in April 2020 within the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), managed by Tsingshan.
2017
Eramet entered a strategic joint venture with Tsingshan, resulting in Tsingshan taking a majority stake in Strand Minerals. Today, Strand Minerals is 43%-owned by Eramet and 57%-owned by a company within the Tsingshan Group. With this new partnership, Weda Bay Nickel moved into the construction phase, marking a significant step forward.
