Who we are: a deeper insight
As a fully owned subsidiary of the Eramet Group — a globally recognised French mining and metallurgical company — Eramet Indonesia contributes to advancing industries and supporting the global energy transition. For over 17 years, we have been part of Indonesia’s journey as a co-shareholder in the Weda Bay Nickel (WBN), a joint-venture company located in Halmahera, North Maluku.
Weda Bay Nickel mines nickel ore, which is processed into essential materials such as nickel ferroalloys, mattes, and nickel salts. These products power industries such as stainless-steel manufacturing and electric mobility, playing a vital role in building a more sustainable future.
Our commitment to sustainability and collaboration
Our mission is to unlock and responsibly transform Indonesia’s rich mineral resources, offering sustainable solutions that drive industrial growth while addressing the challenges of the global energy transition. Through our efforts, we strive to contribute significantly to Indonesia’s long-term development and future success.
As global demand for critical minerals grows, we recognise the responsibility that comes with our operations. By its nature, mining impacts the environment, and we aim to meet this challenge by adhering to the highest standards of environmental stewardship. Our commitment is to produce sustainable metals through responsible mining practices, ensuring respect for people, nature, and the value chain while delivering mutual benefits to the communities we work with.
At the heart of our work is a belief in collaboration. We prioritise building trust and mutual benefit with communities and stakeholders, ensuring our efforts leave a positive, lasting impact.
Empowering employees through diversity and inclusion
Within our organisation, we foster a diverse and inclusive workplace where every voice is valued, innovation thrives, and employees are encouraged to think creatively and challenge conventional approaches. By promoting a culture of respect and collaboration, we empower our employees to contribute meaningfully to Indonesia’s growth, the nation’s development, and global sustainability goals.
Eramet initiates independent IRMA audits
Eramet has voluntarily committed to conducting independent audits across all its operations under the IRMA (Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance) standard. This reflects our dedication to upholding the best practices in responsible mining and our drive for continuous improvement.
In 2022, driven by Eramet’s leadership, the shareholders of PT Weda Bay Nickel agreed to subject the Weda Bay Nickel mine to an independent IRMA audit, before 2026.
