Weda Bay Nickel (WBN), located in Central and East Halmahera, North Maluku, is a significant nickel mine and a key part of the Industrial Weda Bay Park (IWIP). The project dates to 1998, when PT Weda Bay Nickel signed an agreement with the Indonesian government to explore and mine nickel in the region. According to independent assessments by the JORC organisation, the mineable reserves in 2023 are estimated at 2,800 billion wet tonnes (Mwt), making it a critical contributor to the global nickel supply.

In 2017, Eramet entered a strategic partnership with Tsingshan to further develop Weda Bay Nickel. Through this partnership, Tsingshan acquired a 57% stake in Strand Minerals, which owns 90% of Weda Bay Nickel, with Eramet holding the remaining 43%. PT Antam Tbk retains the other 10% ownership in Weda Bay Nickel.
